A SEO: SEO is the short abbreviation for search engine optimization; this is the process
of increasing the amount of visitors to a web site by ranking high in the search engine's
results. The higher a web site is ranked in the search engine results, the more chance it
has of being visited via the search engine results. Since internet surfers do not click
through many pages of search results to find what they are looking for, a web site that
is higher on the search engine's result page will have a better chance of being visited.
B. Search Engines – these are the powerhouse’s of the internet that drive traffic
to your website. The biggest search engines are Google, Yahoo and MSN. An
interesting point to know is that “Google drives about 45% of all website
traffic on the internet,” meaning that it is the most important Search Engine
(no.1) for your website to be seen on. Yahoo is the second biggest search
engine driving about 25% of all internet traffic on the internet, it also drives
many other smaller search engines and is growing, and it is also much easier
to perform well in. MSN is the third biggest and drives about 8% of all
internet traffic. The other 22% of all internet traffic is driven by the much
smaller search engines.
C. Directories - Where listings are gathered through human efforts. In directories, web
sites are often submitted, reviewed, summarized in about 25 words and placed in a
particular category. Submitting to a directory can give you a free link to your site.
D. Keyword – The words entered into a search engine box when you search for
information on the internet. For example channelling, prayer link, music
visionary, I AM Presence, … etc. Depends on what subject you are looking for!
E. Domain Name – This is the actual name of your website, also known as the
URL of your website. For example … www.riselikeaphoenix.com/.
Is the domain name of one of my friend’s websites, which I am the webmaster for.
F. Home Page – This is where your domain name lives, it is normally the first page that a
Visitor looks at when visiting your website. Also known as the ‘index page’ that your
site shows when somebody enters your website.
Example…www.riselikeaphoenix.com/index.html = bold shows the home
(location) page of site.
When somebody types in www.riselikeaphoenix.com/ they will be taken to the
home page which is located at ‘www.riselikeaphoenix.com/index.html’ – the
‘index.html’ part of file name is often kept hidden from view. The first page of
every persons website on the internet is always located and named index.html
All my website pages stem from my index page or home page. Make sure that your
homepage contains all your links to every other page in your website.
(look at www.riselikeaphoenix.com/) to see examples of good linking structure which
is very important.
